My husband and I love everything there is about space exploration and science. At our house, the Discovery and NASA channels are what we usually watch. So when he told me that the moon was going to reach it's closest point to earth during it's orbit tonight I knew I had to get a shot!
According to NASA, the moon is usually about 238,855 miles from the earth but tonight it will be just 221,560 miles (356,567 km) away. It will be 14 percent bigger in our sky and 30 percent brighter than some other full moons during the year.
Imagine ~ a moving object over 200,000 miles away and I can still photograph it's details here on Earth!
Beautiful!
